WHAT SHOULD A STORYBOARD FRAME INCLUDE?

Each post-it frame should include all of the information below. Anything you can't draw can be noted in pencil at the top or bottom.
Remember that you need to convert this drawn storyboard to an ANIMATIC - this means filming each shot for exactly the number of seconds that you plan for the final shot to last, and then creating a timeline for the sequence in Final Cut. The total sequence when you've edited must last 1 minute.

YOUR NEXT DEADLINES - TO WEEK END 12TH DECEMBER

AIM TO HAVE FINISHED FILMING BY THE END OF THIS WEEK (DECEMBER 12TH)- THIS IS YOUR DEADLINE IN THE BOOKLET.

Stage Three  - Planning the sequence.

Match the brief to a simple storyline – a lover’s tiff, teacher and pupil, job interview etc or you can do it in a thriller format.

Location – Where will you film? Is it available? Photograph it for the blog.
Costume – be ambitious and dress characters appropriately
Props – again be ambitious.
Lighting – do you want to create a particular atmosphere?

Then start to storyboard the 1 minute sequence.  You will need to consider shot distance, angle and movement, transitions, and ensure that you cover the 3 continuity techniques mentioned.

Your storyboard must use the correct format, and include all of the information shown on page 25 of your booklet on Moving Image Language. It should also include timing in seconds for each shot, and exact lines of dialogue, sound effects and or music alongside the shot/s that it would be heard.

All this needs to be uploaded to your Blog – divide the posts up between the group.

You should also produce an ANIMATIC of your storyboard - this is a filmed version, where each shot lasts exactly the number of seconds that you have planned for the final film. Edit this in Final Cut and upload to the blog.

Stage Four before your filming

Organise a time to do your filming.  Remember that everything has to “come together” – props, locations, costumes, make up.

Make sure you have organised your all equipment (camera, lighting, tripod)

Remind yourselves of  – WHITE BALANCE, FRAMING OF SUBJECT, MAKING A SANDWICH,

Conduct a Health and Safety check – do a risk assessment for your shoot and record this on your blog.

Stage Five -  Start filming - You will be given only THREE lessons to film.
AIM TO HAVE FINISHED FILMING BY THE END OF THIS WEEK (DECEMBER 12TH)

CREATING THE TITLE FOR YOUR FILM

As soon as you have had your lesson on titling, you should proceed with designing your film title and incorporating it into your opening. Remember  - the task is to create the opening of a thriller film WITH TITLES, so this is assessed as part of the product. Try to be creative, and study other examples carefully. As part of your research marks, you EACH need to analyse the design and presentation of at least 3 different thriller film titles. You can also use TV Drama titling as part of your inspiration or research, but you must explain why you have chosen to use the specific example you have analysed.

Ensure that you consider how the film title, graphics, music, and placement, all work in the overall construction of the sequence. What do they contribute to the meaning about character, mood, atmosphere or any aspect of narrative?

The following links to relevant websites might help, but you are expected to find your own examples, which must be different to those of others in your group. This is individual and independent research.

http://www.artofthetitle.com/A very useful site for looking at title and credit ideas.

A useful short YOUTUBE interview with title designers another useful link

Do NOT simply reproduce an analysis of those that we have covered in class.

This is also a good interview to watch on YouTube.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qbhi-JICKKI

DEADLINE APPROACHING!

Deadline approaching

Friday March 21st 2014.

This Friday is the deadline for the editing of your film footage.

This should include your image editing, sound editing (Foleys, dialogue and soundtrack (COPYRIGHT FREE) )

Some of you are well on course to meet this deadline.

Missing deadlines does have consequences and results in your overall Research and Planning mark being reduced (Time Management).

Partial missing of the deadline (it is clear to us that you are pretty much on course and just have a few things to complete) will be penalised.
However, if we are really concerned that you are falling well behind schedule, a letter will also be sent home to a parent/guardiann alerting them to our concerns.

Don't forget that we are also making judgements as to your suitability to progress into year 2 of this subject.

YOU ARE NOW IN THE FILMING PHASE - NEXT DEADLINE IS FRIDAY MARCH 7TH

 Deadline Three – Filming
Filming stage: plan this extremely carefully. Read the booklet on this stage again. Take photos of your shoot as illustration of your decisions and evidence of your own presence.

By the deadline below: – all “rushes” (unedited, raw footage) to be completed and logged onto the Mac network as a rough cut into the correct file (Locate AS block and group).

All Filming processes, decisions and choices clearly recorded on the group blog. Each of you must contribute to this. Use screen grabs to illustrate shots and the shoot itself. Make comparisons with real thriller films to justify your choice of techniques and narrative structure.

Again, use blog format fully and creatively.
